Canter
a controlled, three-beat gait performed by a horse. When performed by a human pony it looks like a child’s horse gait or skipping on one side. The leading leg always stays ahead of the following leg. The lead leg is determined by the leg closest to the trainer or inside of the arena or vault. It has two beats with the emphasis on the leading leg: DUH-dum, Duh-dum,…
Counter-canter – deliberately taking the wrong lead.
Flying lead change – changing canter leads in the air without loosing the rhythm.
Continuous flying lead changes – looks like skipping.
