Creating yourself as a Pony

Just as there are so many types of inner pony possible, there are a number of varying answers to the question "What do I need to outfit my pony self with?" First ask yourself these questions as well:

  • What kind of pony do I want to be? A fetish pony? A Thoroughbred? A cart pony?
  • Where will I be playing as a pony? In the bedroom only? Out in the barn? In a cold field? In a parade? On stage?
  • Will I play by myself? With another?
  • Am I doing a specific activity like pulling a cart, dressage, a fox hunt, or hunter/jumper?

There are infinite things I may want but a finite number of things I need to create and outfit myself as a human pony. As you become more involved in pony play, you may want to create many different looks and incorporate many items not essentially needed but aesthetically pleasing to you.

Let's start with pony skins. As a human pony you may want to be naked and use your human skin. I like to do pony play in public. Therefore, I need to cover the pink bits at minimum. As a palomino Thoroughbred I wear a clear and very thick latex catsuit with long sleeves and zippers. When selecting a catsuit for a pony skin you need a crotch zipper to relieve yourself when all your gear is on you. Over my pale human skin the clear latex catsuit looks very creamy colored. I wear a lot of restraining bondage gear, specifically harnesses and corsets, so a latex catsuit must be thick enough to hold up to some rubbing. You may also choose spandex or cotton blend spandex catsuits. As a shiny, fantasy show pony I wear a silver liquid vinyl catsuit.

Something I do to create the look of a colored biological horse, such as an Appaloosa, Lipizzaner, or Welsh Pony is to paint a cotton blend spandex catsuit with liquid latex. It gives a great shiny gloss to the skin and the brush strokes give the pony skin movement. You are even able to paint spots or a drabble effect or other designs on your skin. Painting on a cotton blend catsuit enables you to wear the suit over and over again. You can repaint your skin if the knees, elbows, etc. wear.

Here's a step-by-step how to of the technique I use to paint the catsuit:

  1. Have a fan blowing and be in a highly ventilated area.
  2. Put down a painter drop cloth for easy clean up.
  3. Wrap the model's arms, torso, legs in saran wrap.
  4. It takes one quart of paint to cover a nylon body stocking and two quarts of paint to cover a cotton blend catsuit.
  5. At least two people are needed, in addition to the one being painted: one person paints the pony skin while one person holds a hairdryer to blow dry the paint.
  6. The paint has been dried by the hair dryer enough that the pony skin isn't sticky. At this point, you carefully pull the skin off and let it dry for 24 hours.
  7. If the catsuit did not come with a crotch zipper you can sew one in at this point.

It is also an option to use cloth paint on a cotton blend or spandex catsuit. This option has a flatter look and matte finish. Glitter paints are very jazzy though, and sparkle nicely. It is an option to use liquid latex paint on your human body. When you are finished playing, you just pull it off. This is a one time use option. When choosing your method, it all comes down to personal taste, and where you intend to do your pony play.

Tack you need for pony play, especially when playing with a Trainer or Groom that will direct and lead the human pony, is:

  • Bit: The most basic bit can be found online at bio-horse tack shops and in fetish shops. I prefer a bio-horse, metal snaffle bit and I cover it with latex bandage tape which you can also buy in a bio-horse tack shop. Happy Mouth bio horse bits are made with a covering. I have made bits out of O rings with string, shoelaces, or thin leather straps to hold the ring in place.
  • Head Harness: This secures the bit on the pony's head. These can be found online in fetish shops. I have made head harnesses out of half inch cotton rope with no core.
  • Bridle: They can be found in many styles from the basic to the full pony head. They are also useful for ponies who are unable to have a bit in their mouth.
  • Reins/Lead Rope: These can be found in equestrian stores and fetish shops or be created from things you have around the house like rope. The leather reins work better because they do not stretch as much and signals are clearer to the pony.
  • Tail: Simple butt plug tails can be found as a novelty item in most fetish shops. Online you may purchase a real horsehair tail butt plug or one that is just attached to a harness instead of a butt plug. I recommend the pony tail attached to a harness. The pony does not have to work at keeping the plug in while engaging in more demanding play such as dressage or cart pulling and is acceptable if you want to play in public. I have also made a "tail" by using rope to make a crotch harness and braiding rope for the tail.
  • Hooves: Hooves and pony boots can be found online. Depending on what you buy, the pony may be limited in play time or movement. I personally use a walking shoe. These take me through dressage and cart play for hours and hours. As a four legged pony, I wear front a hoof with an arm gauntlet for my front hooves and these are found online in fetish shops.

In sharing my knowledge as a pony and a pony trainer, I received a call from a couple vacationing in Southern California. They were from Greece and he was the pony and she his new Mistress and Trainer. They did not have any tack with them. I told them to come on over and I used rope to create the head harness, body harness, and tail over his street clothes. He wore his sneakers. I used a metal bit covered with latex bandage, but as mentioned above I could have whipped one up using string or rope also. I used my leather barrel rein. We had an excellent session for three hours, covering gaits, training techniques, and ground driving. My point is, we didn't need a lot of expensive tack to have an excellent, useful, fun time together experiencing pony play. We needed rope, a bit, and reins. Don't let not having tack or money for tack stop you from engaging in a play you have passion for.

Optional tack:

  • Plumes: You need a bridle made to attach a plume too. Plumes come in a variety of styles and colors. Bridles and plumes are found online in fetish shops.
  • Harness: Depending on what type of pony you are, the harness may vary. Riding pony harnesses usually feature a wide belt or corset around the middle as well as through-the-leg and shoulder straps. D rings at the shoulders are a suggested addition for reins on cart ponies, but bridle rings for single cart ponies are fine. I enjoy a harnesses as part of the bondage experience of being a pony. I have used rope to create beautiful body harnesses and waist cinchers.
  • Saddle: Human pony saddles are available online. If you are the correct size, I've heard that the best saddles are small, real pony saddles. Two-legged ponies have the option of a saddle for your back or a custom or modified saddle for the shoulders.
  • Stirrups: Just because you have a saddle does not mean you need stirrups, and just because you have stirrups does not mean you need a saddle. I attach my stirrups to my harness. Do be mindful of what type of play you are doing. Attaching stirrups as a fashion statement that bounce off your knees while pulling a cart can be painful.
  • Blinders/Blinkers: Blinders limit the pony's vision. They can be attached to the bridle. Using blinders is also a fabulous training technique.
  • Arm restraints: These can be anything from sleeves to wrist cuffs.
  • Martingales: Martingales are straps from the bridle to harness to reduce spirited behavior.

If you are a cart pony, you need a cart. I use a Shetland pony cart. I have seen these carts online as exercise carts. I know other ponies that use cob carts. Many people build their own cart. Designs for homemade carts are available online.

In conclusion, there are infinite options when creating your look as a pony. Creating yourself as a human pony is about creating a state of mind, a place where your creativity takes you. There are only a few items you need to enable your play to work effectively as a pony-Trainer team.

I have enjoyed hours and hours of fun play as a human pony. It is a passion that calls to me. I hope you are able to follow your passion, too.
